Most of the time they are installed in retail facilities, security control rooms, storage rooms, offices, clinics, schools and residential homes, among others.

A strong room door comes with different certifications as well as thickness to withstand intrusion under various circumstances.

  1. UL certification

UL 608 Burglary Resistant Modular Vaults and Vault Doors

These requirements establish the burglary resistance rating of vault doors and modular panels according to the amount of time they can withstand attack by common mechanical tools, electric tools and cutting torches, among other means.

The ratings that affect entry time are listed below:

(A) Class M – 1/4 hour

(B) Class 1 – 1/2 hour

(C) Class 2 – 1 hour

(D) Class 3 – 2 hour

UL 680 Standard for Emergency Vault Ventilators and Vault-Ventilating Ports

These requirements encapsulate emergency vault ventilators and vault-ventilating ports for wall installations. They evaluate the integrity of electrical wiring and components and establish burglary resistant ratings as well.

The ratings that affect entry time are listed below:

(A) Class M – 1/4 hour

(B) Class 1 – 1/2 hour

(C) Class 2 – 1 hour

(D) Class 3 – 2 hour

  1. Standard features of UL 6008 Class 1 ,2, 3

Strong room doors should be certified for the ability to withstand various forms of burglary attacks required under the UL standards.

(A) Class 1- Overall thickness 9″ (226mm); Slab thickness 3.5″ (89mm)

(B) Class 2- Overall thickness 10″ (251mm); Slab thickness 4.5″ (114mm)

With the advancement of technology, intrusion attacks are getting more sophisticated. Banks and high volume businesses should take stringent security measures to provide protection against crimes. Strong room doors are a great means of security. Learn about their common features below:

Heavy-duty bolt system

A heavy-duty (HD) bolt works best when heavy weight steel sections need to be fixed in place. The special locking mechanism is easy to set up on safe doors and strong room doors just by using a spanner and hammer.

Benefits of heavy-duty bolt system:

  • Simple and quick installation
  • Unique pin locking activation
  • Greater efficiency for any assembly

Vertical reinforced interlocking rebate system

Strong room doors also come with a vertical reinforced interlocking rebate system to ensure the doors remain locked at all times. Some of the door slabs are made of special formulated high strength concrete mixture (SF2000) as well as the anti-drilling attack thermo-alloy hardened plate. These features can help to address or prevent possible burglary attacks.

Three lock options

There are three types of lock options available for a safe room door, namely conventional, combination and digital.

  • Conventional lock

This type of lock employs security pins to prevent picking. You may find the design of these specially shaped tumblers in the form of mushroom, serrated, spool, etc.

  • Combination lock

A sequence of symbols is required to open this type of lock. Users should enter the sequence through a single rotating dial that interacts with several discs or cams.

  • Digital lock

This locking mechanism uses electronic signals to unlock a door. Usually, pin codes keypads are most frequently used. Other options include RFID, Bluetooth, fingerprints, or Wifi.

There are multiple benefits of using a solid strong room door. Firsty, it offers the highest level of protection for your valuables against burglary and fire hazards. It can be concealed relatively easily, usually behind a panelled door. Some people use the same panelling to “hide” the door to their secret room. In addition, an emergency door should be considered to avoid accidental lock-ins.
